Types of Student Tests
AN OVERVIEW OF TESTS

Tests are classified by professionals according to the type of information they produce. Different institutions and testers will require different tests based upon the goal for which the results will be used.

ACHIEVEMENT TESTS which tell you to what level your child has achieved in academic knowledge;

STANDARDIZED TESTS from which scores are compared at a national level;

IQ TESTS showing the potential ability level at which you can expect your child to perform academically;

APTITUTE AND CAREER ASSESSMENT TESTS which also cover ability levels in specific content areas.

SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is not to be confused with the SAT (Standford Achievement Test) taken in grade school. It is offered about six times a year at many locations.
SAT/Advanced Placement Testing

PSAT (the practice test for the sat) test is taken in October. The PSAT is taken to qualify for the national merit scholarship. The cost starts at $10 for each student. It is suggested that students are finished with algebra 2 and be an 11th grader, though they can take it at 10th grade. When taken before 11th grade it "doesn't count", but the following year the score will count for the purpose of scholarship eligibility.

ACT ASSESSMENT TEST provides a measure of how well you can perform on the skills necessary for college coursework.
ACT Testing

PLAN is the practice test for the ACT. It is taken in sophomore or junior year, in November.

The ACT, SAT & PSAT can be taken at Ft. Lauderdale Christian School at 954-972-3444 (as well as other locations)

CPT (College Placement Test)is given by colleges in the absence of any other standardized test.

CLEP (College Level Entrance Placement) test given to earn credit validate credits.

CAT (California Achievment Test) is popular with private schools as an annual standardized test.

IOWA is a common standardized test given by support groups and schools.
